Potable

Population growth, urbanisation, pollution and climate change are putting pressure on available clean water sources. Today, finding non-conventional water sources has become essential for humankind to survive. In this, PROXA is perfectly positioned to provide solutions – from concept through design & construction to on-going operations and maintanance.

In addition to the production of potable water from traditional sources such as rivers, lakes or groundwater, PROXA has an enviable track record in producing potable water from

Boiler feed water

Thermal power plants generate power through the combustion of a feed source, which superheats water to generate steam in a boiler. This high-pressure steam is then used to drive the power generation process.

Over time, impurities within the boiler & steam system can accumulate and if the quality of boiler feed water and recycled steam is not managed properly, sensitive high value equipment may suffer damage and operate at lower efficiencies.

Therefore, the quality of the feed water to boilers needs to be of an exceptional quality to lessen the risk of scaling, corrosion and damage to equipment; in addition to limiting the loss of production due to blowdown of the system.

Process water

PROXA serves a number of industrial sectors, including: mining, powerpetrochemical, steel, mineral, food & beverage and more. In each of these sectors water plays a critical role in the various processes being employed.

The purity requirements of these processes vary from client to client and often, municipal feed water requires further purification before it can be used in the process.

Once used, process water is often contaminated and requires purification to enable re-use or discharge off site. PROXA assists its clients in treating their process water to their tailored quality requirement and are able to provide on-going operational assistance through on-going service contracts.

Recovery for reuse

The re-use of domestic and industrial effluents by treatment with the various processes, ranging from filtration to desalination in different configurations, can be implemented to augment water supplies.

The choice of treatment technology is a function of both the nature of the pollutants in the effluent and the quality, including the type of end-use, of the treated water. A distinction is made between direct or indirect and potable or industrial re-use applications. The best practice in water re-use projects applies the multiple barrier approach to achieve the desired removal and control of pollutants.
